The Gheto CX crew have now become a staple at Sacramento Cyclocross events, adding to the vibe of the series with music, heckling, and hand-ups. They also bring their brand of support to WSCXGP, Rodeocross, Gheto Pick-Ups, and may soon feature at Sagebrush events. This is not some staid, stiff-upper lip chap handing out golf claps as racers slice through the corners. They are noisy and lively and take to the limit some of the enjoyable absurdity that is ‘cross.
At yesterday’s SacCX Lembi Park event, the day was bolstered by rain turning sections of the course to severe traction challenges. Through all the weather, the crew stood firm, continuing to pour on the insults and hand out dixie cups of refreshing juice. Here are select photos of the action with some of the hand-ups and hand backs from the last race of the day: Master Men B.

The Sacramento Cyclocross Series now has a full calendar in place. The eight-race season opens on 27 September 2015, at Orangevale Park. The Lange Twins venue holds a date earlier than usual in the season, on 25 October. SacCX then plans to stage racing at a unique locale in the Sacramento Raceway (13 Decemebr 2015).

This season’s District Cyclocross Championships, for NorCalNevada, will run at the LangeTwins Winery on 14 December 2014. The Lodi family vintner’s have hosted a race on the SacCX calendar every year since 2009 and it has become an outstanding event. One wouldn’t necessarily consider a winery as an ideal venue…this one is located in the low-lying, flat central valley and typically beer is the sport’s beverage of choice…yet somehow the Lange family and the Sacramento/Lodi cyclocross community have cultivated this race into one of the best in the entire region.

Jen Claassen has updated the SacCX season: the latest confirmed event is at Mill View Ranch, Camino near Placerville on 4 January 2014. This leaves just two of eight events that need firming up (sic). The Claassens look to be putting together a great cyclocross season coming out of the State’s capitol.

The Northern California/Northern Nevada region will see significant changes in cyclocross this coming season. Folsom Cyclebration announced it is canceling for 2014, and so with it their cyclocross race. BASP will hold weekend events for Candlestick and Sierra Point, on top of hosting a race on the USAC Cyclo-cross National Calendar. And, the Sacramento Cyclocross Series goes under the new management of Jen and Clint Claassen.
