‘Cross into December
1 December 2012
December has arrived for the 2012 cyclocross season; ten events remain on the calendar in Northern California including the NCNCA/USAC District Cyclocross Championships at Manzanita Park on 30 December. It all begins this Sunday with the Homegrown Cyclocross Series at Woodward Park, Fresno, and CCCX at Manzanita Park, Prunedale. The weather this past week is certain to create some of the most challenging racing conditions for the region in the past two years. Possibly the last best wet conditions was at Manzanita Park back in October 2010.
The other big event for the weekend is a Northern California wanderer – the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships at the Los Angeles Historic Park. Meredith Obendorfer is handling press for the event and reports some top names set to race for the tattoo. These include Amanda Schaper (Ritte), Chris Matthews (Superpro, former pro with Specialized), Eric Colton (Cynergy Cycles), and pro-motorcycle racers Eric and Ben Bostrom. The ‘cross racing will be exciting, interesting, and wild.
All NorCal cyclocross riders should keep in mind that NorCal versus SoCal State Cyclocross Championships will run for its third year on 20 January 2013. In its first two years, SoCal has dominated in points despite NorCal placing riders on the top podium step for many of the races. It all comes down to numbers and SoCal has fielded the highest at this event. The course is top-notch and features a run-up to rival Toro Park. Make sure to mark this event on calendars.
